Intersections: A Feminist Essay Contest

FACE is seeking submissions from both undergraduate and graduate students who have written research papers related to the many topics in gender and women’s studies for courses. This is an interdisciplinary award that welcomes submissions from all departments and courses, including but not limited to humanities, social sciences, and STEM disciplines. 

We privilege writing that demonstrates the following themes, but none of these are required in order to be eligible:

  • social justice-oriented and intersectional approaches that highlight the ways in which gender intersects with sexual orientation, class status, racial identity, (dis)ability, and the environment,
  • features marginalized voices that are often ignored or excluded from the conversation,
  • arguments that dismantle, deconstruct, problematize, critique, or subvert dominant discourses surrounding gender and sexuality.

The best undergraduate and graduate essayists will each receive a WPAC-sponsored award of $200 and special recognition at our fall semester Disorientation Guide launch party.

Submissions are due on Monday, May 22nd. Winners will be announced through social media, email newsletter, and our website by Monday, June 5th.

All submissions may be published (with the author’s permission) on our website.
